Have you ever been on top of a pedestrian bridge in Oshodi or Ojota in Lagos to observe the number of vehicles moving in the same direction?
Yes, when you are at the top of the bridge, you will observe many vehicles moving towards the same direction truly, but that does not mean all the vehicles are going to the same place. Each of these vehicles either turns in or stops moving when they get to their destination.
You might have started school at the same time with your friend it does not mean you will graduate from school the same time.
You and your colleague might have been employed in an office on the same day; it does not mean that your promotion on the job will be the same. You might even realize that a younger colleague at work has built a house, while you the boss is yet to mould a block. The list is endless. There are different strokes for different folks.
You will be depriving yourself of a sound mind when you are looking at other people’s achievements to benchmark your own achievements in life.
Is this article indulging a lackadaisical lifestyle?
No, my argument does not support complacency; rather it supports ingenuity and originality.
A lot of the time, many people mirror their lives with that of their colleagues at work, neighbors, members in the same club etc. Hence, the reason for a lot of unhealthy rivalry and competition that are prevalent in today’s world.
The reality is that, you might have started a journey at the same time, but you are not alighting at the same time.
DISCOVER THE PURPOSE FOR YOUR JOURNEY OF LIFE
Let’s look at a man named Kola who sets out from his house in Lagos to go to Abuja. He gets to the park to take a mass transit bus going to Abuja. After he has bought his ticket and taken his position in the bus, he made friend with a similar traveller whom he met sitting next to his seat. As the journey to Abuja proceeds, Kola and his new friend, Shehu, got talking and discovered they have similar values and interests. They became fond of themselves as they journey together, when they were to buy food to eat, Kola influenced Shehu to buy the same food he bought, while Shehu influenced Kola to buy the same drink he bought. When Shehu offered Kola a cigarette, Kola politely declined the offer and they continued their journey.
When the vehicle got to Ilorin, Shehu alighted from the bus and bid his new found friend, kola, a safe journey to Abuja.
Now, Kola did not get carried away with the fact that Shehu his friend had alighted at Ilorin. He only hugged him and wished him a happy stay at Ilorin. Likewise, Shehu did not change his mind to follow Kola to Abuja simply because they had become friends. Each of them stopped at their place of destination when they got there.
